Vinay Kumar, a resident of Dhyas village under Satyas Gram Panchayat in the Churah subdivision of Chamba district, has appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to send a team of doctors to his home for medical examination and certification, as his condition makes travel extremely difficult.
90 Per Cent Disabled After Accident, Unable to Travel for Medical Certification
Vinay Kumar, son of Brij Ram, met with a serious car accident on August 3, 2019, which resulted in a severe spinal injury. Since then, he has been completely paralysed from the chest down, with both legs numb, and is assessed to be nearly 90 per cent disabled. For the past seven years, he has been confined to his home and continues to battle constant pain and physical distress.
Speaking about his condition, Vinay Kumar said that despite being disabled for several years, he has not been able to avail himself of any government welfare schemes due to the absence of an official medical certificate. He explained that Chamba Medical College, where such medical procedures are conducted, is nearly 85 kilometres away from his residence. Due to his physical condition, prolonged travel is extremely painful and practically impossible.
He further stated that even sitting in a vehicle causes severe discomfort, as he experiences continuous body pain day and night. As a result, reaching Chamba for medical formalities has remained beyond his capacity.
Describing his struggle as a fight between life and death, Vinay Kumar urged the Chief Minister to take cognisance of his plight and arrange for a medical team to visit his home. He expressed hope that once his medical assessment is completed, he would finally be able to access government facilities meant for persons with disabilities.
The family has appealed to the state administration for urgent humanitarian intervention so that the long-pending medical process can be completed and necessary support extended to the affected youth.
