MANDI: In the 2025-26 Himachal Pradesh budget, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a series of projects for his home constituency Nadaun and his wife’s Assembly segment Dehra.
The budget allocations focus on tourism, infrastructure, healthcare and civic development, aiming to boost economic growth in these regions.
Major developments for Nadaun
Nadaun is set to witness significant growth in tourism and civic infrastructure. A wellness centre will be established in the constituency, along with a river rafting centre to promote adventure tourism.
Additionally, water sports facilities will be introduced in the state’s reservoirs, further enhancing the tourism potential of the region.
To strengthen fire safety, eight new fire engines will be procured for Nadaun, Indora, Rajgarh and Kandaghat, while 60 outdated fire engines, aged between 20 and 22 years, will be phased out gradually.
₹25 lakh for Nadaun municipal council
Urban and rural infrastructure development will also receive a substantial boost. The municipal council of Nadaun has been allocated ₹25 lakh, while ₹50 lakh each has been sanctioned for 14 newly formed nagar panchayats, ensuring improved civic amenities.
A 24×7 drinking water project scheme will also be laid in Nadaun. Furthermore, a blood storage unit will be established in Nadaun to strengthen healthcare facilities.
The education sector in Nadaun will also see improvements, with the local Government Senior Secondary School being upgraded to a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School, providing better learning opportunities for students.
Revival of UPA-era Nadaun Spice Park
A major announcement in the budget was the revival of the Spice Park in Hamirpur’s Bada panchayat, which had been originally initiated under the UPA government but was later shelved when the BJP took charge at the Centre.
The state government has now decided to complete the project independently, giving a much-needed boost to the local spice farming industry.
Water, tourism, power projects for Dehra
Dehra, the Assembly segment of CM Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur, has also been gifted several significant projects in this budget.
To address the drinking water needs of the people, the government will establish drinking water treatment plants in Dehra, Jawalamukhi, Jaswan and Pragpur at a total cost of ₹43 crore.
Ensuring a reliable electricity supply, a 33KV/11KV power substation will be built in Karla Kotla (Dehra) as part of a phased plan to strengthen the power infrastructure in Kangra district.
Healthcare and tourism development will also be key focus areas for Dehra. A wellness centre will be established in the constituency, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) sent to the central government for approval. This project is expected to boost both the healthcare sector and tourism by attracting visitors seeking wellness retreats.
Areas near Pong Dam, including Dehra, Nagrota Surian and Khabbal, will be developed into tourism hubs, generating employment and increasing footfall in the region.
