A state-level special campaign (Phase-II) was carried out across Police District Nurpur to conduct intensive checking of pharmaceutical retailers and chemist shops. The drive covered all police stations and outposts in the district, with teams thoroughly inspecting medical stores in markets, towns, and rural areas.
The primary objective of the campaign was to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act and the Drugs & Cosmetics Act. Police teams and the Special Task Force examined drug licenses, purchase and sale records, stocks of restricted/scheduled medicines, and expiry dates.
Chemists and pharmacists were strictly instructed not to sell any restricted or narcotic drugs without a valid doctor’s prescription. They were also directed to maintain transparent and updated records of their stock and sales.
No suspicious items were recovered during the day-long inspection. All shops were found to be in compliance, with no major violations of the NDPS Act or other regulations.
Police officials emphasized that such surprise inspections will continue in the future to protect youth from drug abuse and to maintain law and order in the district.
