Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday said that rapid advancements in modern technology, digital innovation and artificial intelligence are reshaping the field of dentistry, opening new frontiers in diagnosis, treatment and patient care.
Addressing the annual function of Himachal Dental College, the Governor emphasised that India’s journey towards becoming a developed and self-reliant nation would be driven by its youth. He called upon students to blend professional excellence with innovation and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Describing the institution as one of the leading dental colleges in the state, Gupta said it has made significant contributions in education, research, community outreach and public health awareness. “Institutions like these are not just producing competent professionals but are shaping responsible and compassionate citizens,” he noted.
Stressing the importance of oral health, the Governor said it remains a critical component of overall well-being and urged young practitioners to extend quality healthcare services to underserved and remote regions. He also underlined the need to uphold ethical values while pursuing professional success.
Referring to emerging trends, Gupta said the integration of artificial intelligence and digital tools is transforming dental sciences, enhancing precision and accessibility in healthcare delivery. He lauded the college for its sustained outreach efforts, including free dental camps, anti-tobacco campaigns and rural healthcare initiatives.
“The true benchmark of an educational institution lies in its contribution to society,” he said, expressing confidence that the college would continue to expand its reach to the grassroots.
Academic Excellence and Achievements
The Governor felicitated students for outstanding academic and sports achievements. Among BDS students, Adharika Gupta secured first position and Suhani Kashyap third in the first year. Nishita Gupta topped the college and secured third position at the university level in the second year.
In the third year, Akshita Joshi, Vasundhara and Akshat were honoured, while Prashant, Jagisha and Sara Puri secured top positions in the final year.
In postgraduate (MDS) courses, several students achieved first positions at the university level across specialisations, including Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Endodontics and Periodontics.
Sports achievers, including Dr. Sushant Kaushal, Anjika Thakur, Vanshita, Akash Parmar and Devansh, were also recognised, along with badminton doubles winners Dr. Sahil Thakar and Anurag.
Mobile Dental Van, Outreach Efforts Highlighted
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of a modern mobile dental van aimed at strengthening healthcare access in rural and remote areas.
Principal Dr. Baljeet Singh, in the annual report, said the college has been running its flagship “treatment at your doorstep” initiative since 1993. Over the past year, 46 outreach camps were organised, screening more than 6,000 individuals, while over 800 patients received treatment through the mobile dental unit.
He added that the institution received the ‘Community Service and Outreach’ award from the Indian Dental Association in 2025 and was also recognised by the International College of Dentists for its humanitarian services.
Director Dr. Anil Singla welcomed the Governor, while Dr. Vikas Jindal proposed the vote of thanks.
MLA Rakesh Jamwal, former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorv Devgan, Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, Chairperson Santosh Gupta and other dignitaries were present.
Cultural Performances Add Colour
Students presented cultural programmes, including Saraswati Vandana, Nati and Bhangra, adding vibrancy to the function which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and guests.
