A crucial meeting of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) was held today with representatives from various universities and colleges across Himachal Pradesh. The primary agenda was the state government’s failure to implement long-pending promotions of faculty members under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).
Speakers unanimously condemned the delay, calling it “anti-education” and a violation of teachers’ rights. They emphasized that CAS promotions are not mere administrative formalities but recognition of academic contributions, research, and professional merit. The committee criticized the government’s indifference, terming it a “Kumbhakarni sleep” towards teachers’ long-standing demands.
Prominent participants included Prof. Janardan Singh (Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, JAC President), Dr. Sunil (Sardar Patel University, Vice President), Dr. Pradeep (Veterinary College of Science), Dr. Praveen Sharma (Agriculture University President), Dr. Ravindra Singh (Joint Secretary), Prof. Nitin Vyas (HPU, JAC General Secretary), along with several other faculty members.
The committee resolved that on May 11, 2026, all universities and colleges across the state will observe a complete academic boycott — suspending classes, examinations, and academic activities — to protest the government’s inaction.
JAC further announced awareness campaigns, memorandums, and demonstrations in the coming days to press their demands. They urged teachers to unite, and appealed to students and society to support the movement, stressing that the issue directly impacts the quality and future of higher education in Himachal Pradesh.
Concluding the meeting, the committee reiterated that their struggle is not for confrontation but for justice, asserting that safeguarding teachers’ rights is essential for any progressive society.
