The Eco Club of Government Arya Degree College, Nurpur, marked the conclusion of National Wildlife Week 2026 with active participation from 50 student volunteers. This year’s theme was “Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife.”
Earlier in the week, on October 3, the Nurpur Forest Department organized an awareness program highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation. Block Officer Nitin Minhas, along with Forest Guards Arvind Dhiman and Priyankur Bharti, educated students on conservation practices and even rescued a snake from the college premises, releasing it safely back into the forest.
Adding to the academic engagement, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate Professor of Botany, spoke about plant diversity, their habits, habitats, and ecological significance. Mrs. Medha Sharma, Assistant Professor of Zoology, explained the differences between venomous and non-venomous snakes, enriching students’ understanding of local fauna.
On the final day, a speech competition was held with 15 participants. Ms. Arushi, Ms. Kajal, and Ms. Ridhima secured the first, second, and third positions respectively, showcasing their knowledge and commitment to wildlife conservation.
The week-long activities reflected the college’s dedication to fostering environmental awareness and encouraging students to take an active role in protecting biodiversity.
