Kullu, March 30: A devastating landslide struck Manikaran, a prominent religious site in Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday, claiming six lives and leaving several others injured. The incident occurred near the Manikaran Gurudwara when a section of the hillside collapsed, bringing down huge boulders and a pine tree, which crushed multiple parked vehicles.
Rescue Operations Underway
Authorities launched an immediate rescue operation as some people were trapped inside the damaged vehicles. Local residents, police, and disaster response teams are working to clear the debris and search for survivors. The injured have been rushed to the nearest hospital, while officials fear that the death toll could rise.
Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Ravish confirmed that emergency teams are at the site and relief efforts are being carried out at full speed.
Traffic Disruptions, Tourists Advised to Be Cautious
The Kullu-Manikaran road has been completely blocked, leading to long traffic jams. Police have restricted movement in the area to facilitate relief operations. Given that Manikaran is a major religious and tourist destination, authorities have urged visitors and locals to remain cautious, especially amid ongoing landslide risks in the region.
The incident has raised concerns about landslide-prone zones in Himachal Pradesh, with experts warning of the need for stronger preventive measures to ensure the safety of tourists and residents.
