Amid the winter carnival festivities in Shimla, Punjabi singer Satinder Sartaj mesmerised the crowd with his soulful music. But one line, “Je Sukhu raazi ho jave, fir bhi rola naiyo paida,” struck a chord far deeper than a mere melody.

This video has gone viral on internet. While ostensibly aimed at Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the line reflects an age-old truth about power and its intricate dynamics.

The corridors of power have always been arenas of intrigue, rivalry, and scrutiny. History bears testimony to this — whether it was Chanakya dismantling the inner circle of Nanda dynasty rulers to establish Chandragupta Maurya’s empire, or the infamous downfall of King Louis XVI of France, where his advisers and confidants became the first targets of public and political ire. Proximity to power has always been both a privilege and a peril.

In Sukhu’s case, his trusted aides find themselves walking the same tightrope. Public perception often targets those closest to the leader, turning them into lightning rods for criticism and controversy.
It’s a timeless strategy: weaken the leader by isolating him from his inner circle. Even in modern politics, the tactic holds strong, where rivals focus on discrediting trusted lieutenants to destabilize leadership.
Satinder Sartaj’s poetic observation, though cloaked in a casual tone, reveals the unspoken rules of the game. The line suggests that even if Sukhu, the Chief Minister, does everything right, the “rola” (uproar) in the political landscape is inevitable. Much like in history, where even the noblest kings couldn’t shield their aides from scrutiny, today’s political figures and their confidants face the same storm of public and political judgment.

From Caesar’s Brutus to Akbar’s Bairam Khan, history is filled with stories of confidants turned targets. In Himachal’s contemporary political landscape, Sartaj’s words echo this enduring reality. Whether Sukhu’s team will weather the storms or succumb to the uproar depends on their resilience and strategy.
As Sartaj’s song suggests, in the unpredictable world of politics, calm waters are a rarity, and “rola (chaos)” is the constant undercurrent that keeps the game alive.
