The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, will hold its first meeting of the year on January 8 at the Secretariat in Shimla.
The meeting is anticipated to focus on critical decisions, with a significant agenda item being the preparations for the upcoming annual budget.
As part of the budget planning process for the fiscal year 2025-26, the government has scheduled two-day meetings with legislators on February 3 and 4.
These discussions, chaired by CM Sukhu, aim to gather input on austerity measures, resource mobilisation and administrative improvements. Legislators from Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Solan, Chamba, Bilaspur and Lahaul-Spiti will meet on February 3, while representatives from Shimla, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur, and Sirmaur districts will join discussions on February 4.
The forthcoming budget is expected to reflect a significant increase, with the annual outlay projected to surpass Rs 10,000 crore, a rise of over Rs 800 crore compared to the previous fiscal year.
The cabinet meeting is expected to set the tone for the government’s fiscal priorities in the new year. With the focus on efficient governance and strategic resource allocation, these discussions are likely to pave the way for a comprehensive and inclusive budget that addresses Himachal Pradesh’s developmental needs.
