Bollywood actress and BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, has released a new trailer for her film ‘Emergency’.
The film is based on the life of former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi. The new trailer, shared by Kangana on social media, excludes scenes that previously depicted Sikh individuals and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in a controversial light.
In the earlier trailer, Sikhs were shown firing guns, which led to accusations from the Sikh community of being portrayed as terrorists. Independent MP from Faridkot, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, along with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), raised objections.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the green light for the film, which will now release on January 17, 2025. Originally scheduled for release on September 6, 2024, the film faced delays due to clearance issues with the CBFC.
The controversial scenes have been deleted after the board demanded factual accuracy from the filmmakers. The film’s makers were asked to address concerns regarding the portrayal of historical figures and events, including scenes involving Pakistani soldiers and offensive comments made by prominent figures.
Kangana expressed frustration over the delays, citing threats and pressure on the production team, which led to last-minute changes and the postponement of the film’s certification.
