Mandi/Una (Munish Sood)
As the nation celebrates its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, all eyes will be on the sky above Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
Among the fleet of aircraft showcasing India’s aerial prowess, a Rafale fighter jet will streak across the horizon, piloted by none other than Flight Lieutenant Amol Garg, a promising officer from Una in Himachal Pradesh.
Journey rooted in dedication
Amol’s story is one of unwavering commitment and passion. Born to Jagdeep Sharma, a former Navy officer now serving as an engineer with the ONGC, and Sneha Sharma, a homemaker, Amol was instilled with values of discipline and service from a young age.
His formative years were spent in Una where he completed his schooling at DAV Centenary Public School in 2014.
Initially, Amol pursued engineering at NIT-Hamirpur, having secured admission through the JEE (Mains) examination.
However, his aspirations took a decisive turn when he chose to serve the nation by joining the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune. This decision was vindicated when he secured the third rank nationwide in the UPSC NDA examination, a testament to his exceptional dedication and intellect.
Emerged top-ranking cadet in Indian Air Force segment
At the NDA, Amol’s excellence continued unabated. He emerged as the top-ranking cadet in the Indian Air Force segment, underscoring his prowess and potential as a future leader in India’s aerial defence.
Currently stationed at the Ambala Air Base, Amol has undergone rigorous training to master the Rafale, one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets.
Moment of pride for family, Himachal Pradesh
The upcoming Republic Day flypast will not only be a personal milestone for Amol but also a moment of immense pride for his family and the entire state of Himachal Pradesh.
His younger brother, currently pursuing an MD at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, and his parents have been pillars of support throughout his journey.
