Chamba Road Tragedy: Family of Five K*illed in Alto Car Accident

A devastating road accident occurred early this morning near Lahad, Bani Khet, claiming the lives of five people, including a three‑month‑old infant. At around 6:45 AM, police received information that a vehicle had fallen off the hillside.

Upon reaching the spot, ASI Yashpal (In‑charge, Bani Khet Police Post) along with the SHO and team found a white Alto car (HP 48 A 8534) that had plunged nearly 400 meters down the slope. Local residents were already present, assisting in rescue efforts.

Despite immediate action, all passengers were found dead at the site. The victims have been identified as:

  • Vachan Singh (60), son of Narayan Singh, village Gehra, Chamba
  • Rimpun Singh (30), son of Vachan Singh
  • Rimpi Devi (26), wife of Rimpun Singh
  • Kirti (23), daughter of Kesar Singh
  • Infant (3 months)

The bodies were retrieved with the help of fire brigade, police personnel, and local villagers, and transported to CHC Dalhousie Hospital for post‑mortem.

Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, led by ASI Yashpal. The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the region, highlighting once again the dangers of mountain roads in Chamba district.

Authorities are expected to examine the cause of the accident, while locals have urged for better road safety measures to prevent such heartbreaking losses in the future.
