As Himachal Pradesh continues to witness heavy snowfall, the state’s hilly regions have transformed into a winter wonderland with a white blanket covering the landscape.
The snowfall has brought biting cold to the region, while plains are reeling under the impact of an intense cold wave.
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has predicted that the New Year will begin with fresh snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh, offering a snowy spectacle to residents and tourists alike.
Tabo recorded the lowest temperature in the state at a bone-chilling -12.3°C, while Una registered a comparatively warm 20.4°C during the same period.
Snowfall and Temperature Trends
Over the past 24 hours, Himachal Pradesh experienced light to moderate rainfall and snowfall at various locations.
While no significant change in maximum temperatures was observed, minimum temperatures plummeted by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius across most areas.
The weatherman has forecast that January 2 and 3 could see sporadic rain and snowfall in some parts of the state, with more widespread precipitation expected in the higher and mid-hill regions on January 4. However, the rest of the week is expected to remain dry, providing a mix of winter chill and sunshine.
Cold wave alert issued
Temperatures are expected to drop further in the coming days. Minimum temperatures may decline by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days before stabilising.
Between December 30 and January 2, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail during the morning and late-night hours in lower hill and plain areas.
Severe cold wave conditions are anticipated in certain regions on December 30, 31, and January 1, along with frost formation in isolated pockets of lower hill and plain areas during early mornings.
Tourist attractions, precautions
The forecast of snow is expected to attract a large number of tourists to popular destinations such as Shimla, Manali and Dalhousie, which are already witnessing a surge in bookings for the New Year celebrations.
However, authorities have advised caution while travelling to snow-covered areas, citing slippery roads and potential disruptions in essential services.
Travellers are urged to stay updated on weather conditions and adhere to safety advisories issued by local administrations.
