The Rotary Club Chhoti Kashi Mandi on Sunday honoured eight government school teachers with the Nation Builder Awards, recognising their dedicated contribution to education, student welfare and community service.
The awardees were Sushil Kumar, TGT Medical at GSSS Shivabadar; Nisha Thakur, Hindi Lecturer at GSSS Barot; Darshan Lal, Lecturer in Computer Science at GSSS Saigaloo; Harshana Behl, Hindi Lecturer at GSSS Katindhi; Sushma Kumari, TGT Arts at Government High School Ratti; Suresh Kumar, Chemistry Lecturer at GSSS Shivabadar; Suneeta, English Lecturer at GSSS Tandoo; and Jyoti, TGT Mathematics at Government BSL Senior Secondary School, BBMB Colony, Sundernagar. The teachers were recognised for their long-standing service, innovative teaching methods, student support and contributions extending beyond the classroom.
Welcoming the gathering, Rotary Club Chhoti Kashi Mandi President Rtn. Akhilesh Bharti highlighted the spirit of service that forms the foundation of Rotary. Rtn. Munish Sood gave an introduction to Rotary, its structure and its commitment to community service.
Speaking on the significance of the Nation Builder Awards, Rtn. Dr. Anupama Singh said teachers play a vital role in shaping not only students but generations. She emphasised that a teacher’s contribution goes beyond academics and includes nurturing confidence, values, discipline, compassion and the courage to pursue one’s aspirations.
The awardees represented diverse aspects of the teaching profession. Sushil Kumar was recognised for his work in activity-based and technology-enabled learning as well as his contribution to teacher-training resource groups. Nisha Thakur was acknowledged for continuing education through online Hindi classes during the COVID-19 pandemic and for supporting students facing financial and personal hardships.
Darshan Lal was honoured for promoting digital literacy and helping students access scholarships, while Harshana Behl was recognised for completing 25 years of dedicated service in the Education Department. Sushma Kumari, with 24 years of teaching experience, was acknowledged for her work in improving enrolment, supporting needy students and mentoring fellow educators.
Suresh Kumar was recognised for his long teaching career and consistent academic results, along with his focus on practical and technology-based learning and participation in co-curricular initiatives. Suneeta was honoured for her two decades of service as an English educator, while Jyoti was recognised for her innovative approach to teaching Mathematics and her active involvement in school activities.
The programme was attended by Suman Sharma, Renu Gulati, Amar Ahuja, Anuradha Sood, Jaipal Singh, Prabodh Anand, Seema Sharma and Dharmender Rana, besides members of the Rotary Club.
Following the awards ceremony, Rotary Club Chhoti Kashi Mandi members also marked the club’s anniversary by cutting a cake, celebrating the journey of the club and its continued commitment to service and community initiatives.
The function concluded with high tea, providing an opportunity for members, guests and the award-winning teachers to interact and celebrate the occasion together.
