The state-level tableaux at the Sundernagar Nalwar Fair 2026 witnessed an overwhelming cultural high as the rhythmic resonance of Tamak, a traditional percussion instrument of Himachal Pradesh, emerged as the defining highlight of the celebrations. Drawing crowds and commanding attention across the town, the presentation stood out not merely as a performance, but as a powerful expression of the region’s heritage and collective identity.

From the very first beat, the Tamak ensemble created an electrifying yet spiritual atmosphere, captivating audiences lining the streets. Deeply rooted in Himachali tradition, Tamak is often associated with devotion, valor, and cultural pride. This year’s presentation elevated its significance further, with many describing the experience as a “Brahmanad” — a symbolic cosmic vibration reflecting harmony and positive energy.

At the centre of this standout tableau was Ajay Thakur, whose leadership and vision played a pivotal role in transforming the presentation into a compelling cultural showcase. Backed by his team and organization, Thakur ensured that the performance went beyond entertainment, emerging as a strong message of heritage preservation and youth engagement.

The event was formally inaugurated by SDM Sundernagar, Amar Negi, who performed traditional rituals and, in a rare gesture, joined the performers by playing the Tamak himself — setting the tone for the grand procession.

Grand Cultural Procession Draws Massive Public Participation

The procession began from Shukdev Vatika, weaving its way through the busy Bhojpur Bazaar before culminating at the Boys School Ground. Streets along the route reverberated with drumbeats, applause, and enthusiastic participation, reflecting the deep emotional connect between the people and their cultural roots.

A notable feature of the presentation was its inclusivity. Participants ranged from children as young as four years old to seasoned performers aged up to 75, symbolising the seamless generational continuity of Himachal’s rich traditions.

Senior artists Dharam Singh Parmar and Lekh Raj Parmar added depth and authenticity to the performance, lending their experience and command to strengthen the overall presentation.

Collective Effort Behind a Cultural Milestone

The success of the tableau was also attributed to the contributions and support of several individuals, including Sohan Lal Thakur, Nikhil Thakur, Gagan Thakur, Subhash Thakur, Tek Singh Kabir, Netra Thakur, and Satish Ji, whose efforts played a crucial role in execution and coordination.

As the beats of Tamak echoed through Sundernagar, the presentation left behind more than just applause — it reinforced a sense of pride, unity, and cultural awakening. The tableau not only celebrated tradition but also underscored the enduring strength of Himachal Pradesh’s cultural fabric.

With its powerful blend of devotion, rhythm, and community spirit, the Tamak presentation at Nalwar Fair 2026 will be remembered as one of the most impactful cultural moments of the event.
