The Sukhu government in Himachal Pradesh has sparked outrage by filing cases against lawyers staging a peaceful protest for their legitimate demands. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s move has been condemned as an attempt to silence voices rather than listen to them.
Advocate Vishwachakshu, BJP’s state media co‑incharge, denounced the action as a “murder of democracy.” He stated, “Instead of addressing lawyers’ concerns, the Sukhu government has resorted to FIRs. This reflects panic and a dictatorial mindset. Congress has always been hostile to democratic values – Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency, and now Sukhu is imposing a micro‑Emergency in Himachal.”
He further remarked, “Lawyers are the mirror of society. When the mirror shows the government’s flaws, the government tries to break it. But BJP stands firmly with the lawyers. We strongly oppose this tyranny and demand immediate withdrawal of all cases.”
