SHIMLA: A Muslim couple residing in Kandaghat area of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh was detained by local police following public outrage over alleged pro-Pakistan posts made on Facebook.
The incident has come amid India-Pakistan tensions and triggered widespread protests and demands for legal action under sedition charges.
Facebook post praising Pakistan triggers controversy
According to reports, the woman, who runs a tailoring business in Kandaghat, allegedly posted content on Facebook praising Pakistan and its army.
The posts included phrases such as “Pakistan Zindabad” and claims that the Indian Army was retreating in fear of the Pakistani military.
The content quickly drew backlash from local residents who reported it to the Kandaghat police, demanding immediate action and a sedition case.
Police launch probe amid public protest
Following the complaint, the Kandaghat police summoned the couple for questioning and have reportedly launched an investigation into the matter. While the police have not issued an official statement, sources said cybercrime authorities had also been informed.
As news of the post spread, angry locals gathered outside the police station demanding strict action, alleging the couple had a history of similar behaviour.
Locals hold rally, allege criminal history
By evening, protests intensified with a rally in the Kandaghat marketplace at 5 pm. Demonstrators waved flags, chanted slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Indian Army Zindabad”, while denouncing Pakistan.
One protester alleged the woman’s son was a known drug trafficker who had been jailed multiple times. Locals have called for a thorough investigation into the family’s background.
