In a significant achievement in the ongoing campaign against drugs by Himachal Pradesh Police, District Kangra Police, during night patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Station McLeodganj, intercepted illegal activities at a café in Upper Bhagsu in the early hours of 23rd August 2026.
During the operation, police recovered 5.35 grams of ganja/bhang leaves, 25.94 grams of charas and 1.25 grams of chitta/heroin, along with packing material and 19 beer cans, from the premises of the café. A case has accordingly been registered at Police Station McLeodganj under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act.
Two persons, namely Rakesh Kumar (39), owner of Jungle Calling Café, and Vijit Bhattacharya (39), a resident of West Bengal, have been arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the café owner was allegedly hosting rave parties on 22nd and 23rd August 2026 at the café premises. The timely intervention by Kangra Police resulted in the successful disruption of the said rave party and prevention of further illegal activities. Investigation has further established that the café did not possess the requisite permit/licence for serving or selling alcoholic beverages on its premises.
It has also emerged during investigation that the rave parties were being promoted/advertised through social media and closed online groups. Relevant screenshots and other digital evidence have been collected and are enclosed for ready reference. Further verification and examination of the digital evidence is in progress.
Further investigation is in progress. Kangra Police remains firmly committed to taking stringent legal action against persons involved in the possession, supply, distribution and consumption of illicit drugs, as well as against those facilitating or promoting such illegal activities. Concerted action will continue against establishments being used for drug-related activities, unauthorised sale of liquor and other unlawful activities.
