An emotional appeal by a young schoolgirl moved Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during his visit to Chamba district, as she pleaded for her mother’s transfer closer to home after years of separation.
Vanshika Thakur, who has been living away from her mother for the past three years, broke down in tears before the Chief Minister while requesting that her mother, JBT teacher Naro, be posted at a school near their home in Churah.
Naro has been serving at Nerwa in Shimla district for nearly three years. With her workplace located around 700 kilometres away from home, the family has been compelled to live separately, causing emotional and practical difficulties.
Sharing her ordeal, Vanshika told the Chief Minister that she stayed with her mother until Class IV. However, she had to take admission in a school near her home when she entered Class V. She is also preparing for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance examination and said that her mother’s prolonged absence has made life challenging.
During the interaction, the issue of a teacher shortage at Chandru School was also raised. It was highlighted that five teaching positions were filled last year, but none of the selected teachers joined, leaving several posts vacant and affecting academic activities.
Deeply moved by the young student’s plea, Chief Minister Sukhu assured Vanshika and her mother that appropriate steps would be taken to post the teacher in a school closer to her home within the constituency.
The Chief Minister’s assurance has given fresh hope to the family that their three-year separation may finally come to an end.
