Shimla: The ongoing strike of patwaris and kanungos in Himachal Pradesh is set to continue despite Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s assurances.
Following a discussion with the CM at Gaggal airport in Kangra on Saturday, the Joint Patwari-Kanungo Federation held a virtual meeting and unanimously decided not to end their protest until the government formally withdrew the notification regarding the state cadre system.
Federation president Satish Chaudhary stated that they appreciate the Chief Minister’s assurance but would not return to work until the government issued an official letter nullifying the notification and invited the federation for talks.
As soon as the government released the letter rescinding the state cadre notification, all patwaris and kanungos across the state would resume their duties immediately, the federation said.
Senior vice-president Ajay Kapoor, state press secretary Yuvraj Negi and representatives from various districts, including Una, Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Mandi, participated in the virtual meeting.
The federation has conveyed its decision to the Chief Minister’s Office, Revenue Minister, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), Director of Land Records, and all Sub-Divisional Magistrates.
CM’s assurance not enough for protesters
Chief Minister Sukhu had assured the federation that the implementation of the state cadre system would not impact their promotions and that all promotional benefits would be granted as usual.
