Mandi: The Himachal Pradesh State Committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has sought action against a college principal and professor following an incident of attempted suicide at Avasthi Nursing College in Nalagarh, Solan district.

The incident involved a student’s attempted suicide provoked by casteist remarks.

The SFI is demanding the immediate arrest of these individuals, citing the government and police administration’s lackadaisical response as unacceptable.
Furthermore, the SFI has denounced the apathetic stance of the authorities regarding the disturbing events at the college, which included physical assault on two sisters and their subsequent expulsion due to discriminatory behavior by the principal and professor.

Anil Thakur, the SFI state joint secretary, emphasized that the principal and professor should have been promptly apprehended under the Atrocity Act for their reprehensible conduct towards the students. Regrettably, the police administration’s deliberate inaction has exacerbated the situation, he said.

According to the SFI, the college officials not only subjected a student to physical assault but also unlawfully expelled her and her sister after they raised inquiries about the student’s scholarship. The SFI’s Himachal Pradesh State Committee is insistent on the government and police administration guaranteeing the safety of students and facilitating the reinstatement of the affected student.

Thakur asserted that the mistreatment of the student will not be tolerated, and should the state authorities fail to take immediate and decisive action, the SFI is prepared to initiate a vigorous protest against them.
