Auckland House School, a reputed institution in Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla, has landed in controversy after issuing a circular instructing junior students to wear white kurta-pyjama and a small cap for an Eid-ul-Fitr celebration on March 28 (2025).

The school management sent an SMS to parents regarding this, asking students from nursery to Class II to bring dry fruits and sevaiyan.

The directive has sparked outrage among Hindu organisations, leading the school to withdraw the celebration plan.

Hindu outfit warns of protest

The issue took a serious turn as the Devbhoomi Kshatriya Organisation issued a warning against the school’s decision.

Organisation president Rumit Singh Thakur released a video statement, condemning the school’s actions and declaring that such behaviour would not be tolerated.

He alleged that members of a particular community were already engaging in “love jihad” and other criminal activities. He warned that if the event proceeded, the organisation would stage a protest and even shut down the school.

Outrage against school on social media

The school’s circular quickly went viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from various quarters. Many users expressed strong opposition, questioning why a reputed institution was mandating religious attire and celebrations.

The outrage online added fuel to the controversy, leading to further demands for administrative intervention.

School withdraws celebration plan

In response to the backlash, Auckland House School clarified that it had planned the Eid celebration just as it did for Holi, Diwali and Christmas. However, prioritising the safety of students and staff, the management decided to cancel the event following public objections.

The school assured that it respects all religious sentiments and will act accordingly in the future.
