Twin achievements by brothers from Mandi’s Baragaon village bring pride to the region

In an inspiring story of dedication, discipline and patriotism, the two sons of a retired Army veteran from Baragaon village in Mandi district have achieved remarkable success in their respective careers, bringing laurels to their family and the entire region.
Retired Army soldier Nek Ram Thakur, son of late Sundar Singh and a resident of Baragaon village under Drang Post Office in Padhar subdivision, is celebrating a proud milestone as both his sons have secured prestigious positions in uniformed and public services, carrying forward the values of commitment and service instilled by their father.
His elder son, Saurav Thakur, has successfully completed the demanding training required to serve as a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force. His achievement marks a significant milestone in a distinguished military career, and he will now take on greater responsibilities in safeguarding the nation’s airspace.
The younger son, Amit Thakur, has also added to the family’s glory by earning selection as a Section Officer (SO) after clearing a highly competitive recruitment process. Previously serving as a constable in the police department while based in Pakhri, Amit is currently undergoing professional training at the Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration (HIPA).
To commemorate the double celebration, Nek Ram Thakur organised a traditional ‘Dham’ at his native village, where relatives, friends and local residents gathered to congratulate the family and celebrate the brothers’ remarkable accomplishments.
The family’s story stands as a shining example of how the values of discipline, integrity and perseverance cultivated in the armed forces can inspire the next generation to excel in service to the nation. The twin achievements have brought immense pride to Baragaon village and Mandi district, while serving as a powerful inspiration for young people aspiring to build careers in the defence and public services.
