Terming it a grave injustice to Himachal Pradesh, Chamba District Congress President Advocate Surjeet Bharmouri strongly criticized the Centre over the decision of the 16th Finance Commission to deprive the state of revenue deficit grants.

Bharmouri said that the decision would cause Himachal Pradesh a direct annual loss of nearly ₹10,000 crore. He added that between 2026 and 2031, the state was expecting to receive around ₹50,000 crore from the Finance Commission, which will now not be available.

Reacting sharply, Bharmouri said the move was a direct blow to the hopes and aspirations of the people of Himachal Pradesh. He questioned what the state received in return despite giving a full mandate of seven MPs to the BJP.

He alleged that the BJP MPs completely failed to raise Himachal’s rightful demands in Delhi, clearly indicating that the Centre and its representatives have no priority for the state’s interests.

Calling the budget a “document of destruction” for Himachal Pradesh, Bharmouri said it would be remembered as a “black day” in the state’s history. He warned that the people of Himachal would neither forget this injustice nor remain silent, and that the fight for the state’s rights would be raised at every level.
