DHARAMSHALA: The winter session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly is likely to be tumultuous as it would commence at Tapovan in Dharamshala on Tuesday (December 19, 2023) and conclude on December 23.
Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has called an all-party meeting in Tapovan on Tuesday to foster a conducive environment for smooth conduct of the session.
The Congress and BJP legislative parties have convened a meeting of their respective MLAs on Monday to strategise for their upcoming session.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will directly arrive in Dharamshala from Delhi this afternoon to prese over the meeting. The ruling party plans to commend the government’s relief and rescue efforts during the recent disaster while challenging the opposition.
Congress leaders and MLAs have criticised the BJP for allegedly inadequate assistance from the Centre during the natural disaster. They, however, praise the state government’s efforts, highlighting the Rs 4,500 crore disaster relief package for victims, achieved without central assistance.
The government is likely to list the restoration of OPS, a Rs 650 crore startup project, the introduction of English-medium education in government schools, the procurement of cow dung starting January and a Rs 6 per litre increase in the purchase price of milk as steps toward fulfilling promises.
Simultaneously, the BJP legislature party is gearing up to meet and strategise against the government. Focused on the failures of the government’s one-year tenure, the opposition MLAs aim to raise concerns related to unemployment, government recruitment, institution closures, law and order, disaster relief, road conditions, loans, mining, education and healthcare. The opposition plans to pose more than 400 questions during the Assembly session, seeking accountability and transparency from the ruling government.
