MANDI: An incident involving alleged physical assault and verbal abuse of tourists has been reported from the Mission Road area near Hotel Bodh International in Manali. A case has been registered at the Manali police station following a complaint by a tourist from Haryana, who claimed that his wife, holding their four-month-old daughter, was allegedly assaulted and thrown to the ground during the altercation.
According to the FIR No. 99/25 dated June 23, 2025, the incident occurred when the complainant, Pradeep (35), a resident of Satnali in Mahendragarh district of Haryana, was returning from a sightseeing trip to Vashisht on a rented two-wheeler. Accompanied by his wife Deepika (28), their infant daughter Jia, his brother-in-law Jainedra, sister-in-law Asha, brother Gopal and sister-in-law Nisha, the group was en route to return the rented motorcycles around 5 pm when the incident unfolded.
Pradeep, who was riding a Scooty (HP66A-4417), stated that a Jeep (HP58-3210) was blocking the road near the hotel. A man allegedly asked for the Scooty keys to move the vehicle. When Pradeep handed over the key but the path remained obstructed, he requested it back. This reportedly led to a heated argument. In a shocking escalation, the man allegedly grabbed Deepika by the neck and threw her to the ground, despite her holding their infant daughter. The baby also fell onto the road.
As Pradeep’s brother Gopal rushed to help, four persons allegedly joined the attacker and physically assaulted the family members. The victims claimed they were punched, abused and threatened with dire consequences.
Based on Pradeep’s complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 352, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The matter is currently under investigation by Investigating Officer Manoj Negi (Badge No. 78) of the Manali police.
