To boost winter tourism, Yeti Festival kicks off in Himachal's Lahaul-Spiti

MANDI: In a major step towards promoting winter tourism and sports in Lahaul-Spiti district, the much-awaited Yeti Festival begins on Monday (February 24, 2025) from Gondla panchayat, aiming to spotlight the region’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

The vibrant festival is set to be organised across key locations in all valleys, ensuring that every activity aligns with and respects local cultural traditions.

Offering blend of valley’s art, culture, cuisine, sports

The Yeti Festival will offer a unique blend of the valley’s art, culture, cuisine and winter sports. Traditional folk dances, local handicrafts, authentic cuisines and indigenous winter games will be the main highlights, providing visitors an immersive cultural experience.

One of the festival’s core objectives is to foster community spirit while creating new avenues for tourism during the winter season.

Officials emphasise public participation for event’s success

District officials have emphasised that public participation is key to the success of the festival.
“No initiative can achieve complete success without public cooperation. We encourage everyone to actively participate and make this event a grand success,” said a senior district officer.

The administration has already identified several key venues based on requests from local panchayats. However, if more communities express interest, the festival’s reach will be extended to additional locations. Plans are also in motion to organise the festival in Spiti Valley soon, further amplifying its impact across the district.

Highlighting the festival’s broader vision, MLA Anuradha Rana expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “The Yeti Festival is not just an event, it’s a celebration of our district’s unique heritage and a strategic step towards boosting winter tourism.

By showcasing our traditional arts, cuisines and winter sports, we aim to attract tourists while providing a platform for local artisans and athletes. Community involvement is crucial to make this festival a long-lasting success.”
