Himachal Pradesh’s Seven Cities Experience Hottest Days, Rain Relief Expected by End of September

Record-Breaking Heat in Shimla and Seven Cities

Himachal Pradesh saw unprecedented heat in September 2024, with seven cities, including Shimla, Manali, and Dharamshala, breaking maximum temperature records. On both 23 and 24 September, Shimla recorded a scorching 28.4°C, one of the highest September temperatures in a decade. Previously, on 20 September 2024, the city saw 27.2°C, marking it as the second-highest temperature recorded during this period. The all-time highest temperature for Shimla was 28.6°C, recorded on 30 September 1994.

Manali Faces Extreme Heat

Manali, another popular tourist destination, saw its second-highest maximum temperature in recent years, with 27.7°C recorded on 23 September. The highest in the last 10 years was 28.4°C, recorded on 14 September 2023. The all-time high for Manali remains at 29.2°C, registered on 8 September 1987.

Bhuntar and Kangra Also Break Records

In Bhuntar, 24 September saw the hottest day on record, with temperatures soaring to 35.5°C. This surpassed the previous high of 35.2°C, set on 1 September. Similarly, Kangra witnessed an all-time high of 35.0°C on both 23 and 24 September, with the second-highest being 34.6°C on 12 September.

Una’s Record-High Temperature

Una, one of the hottest cities in Himachal, recorded its highest-ever temperature of 38.6°C on 24 September 2024, matching the same temperature from 21 September 2020.

Dharamshala Experiences Hottest Day in 10 Years

In Dharamshala, the temperature reached 32.0°C on 24 September, the highest recorded in the last decade. Earlier, on 20 and 21 September, the city recorded 31.1°C, marking it the second-highest during this period. The all-time record for Dharamshala was 38.6°C on 30 September 1988.

Sundernagar Joins the Record Heatwave

Sundernagar also experienced extreme heat, with the highest temperature of 35.1°C recorded on 23 September. On 24 September, the second-highest temperature of 34.7°C was registered, adding to the overall heatwave in the region.

Weather Forecast for Coming Days

According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, the heatwave is not expected to intensify further in the next few days. Rainfall activity is expected to increase in many parts of the state over the next two to three days, bringing some relief. The maximum temperature is predicted to drop by 2-3°C due to the rain.

From 25 to 27 September, widespread rainfall is forecast, and the weather may remain unsettled in certain areas until 29 September. Afterward, from 30 September onward, the weather is expected to clear up across the state.
