MANDI: A seemingly ordinary goat has become the centre of curiosity and speculation in Jhiri village on the Mandi-Kullu border, after videos of the animal appearing among steep rocks near the Jogni Mata temple went viral on social media. What began as an unusual sighting has now turned into a debate over faith, superstition and the tendency to give supernatural explanations to ordinary events.
From a stray goat to a ‘miracle’
According to local accounts, the goat has been seen for the past few months around a steep rocky stretch near the Jogni Mata temple. Residents and children reportedly noticed that the animal would emerge from a cave-like shelter around 7 pm and return to the rocky area before sunrise. The unusual routine gradually attracted attention, particularly after videos of the goat began circulating on social media. Claims soon emerged that the goat mysteriously disappeared whenever people tried to approach it. Some even began associating its presence with Jogni Mata and describing the animal as a manifestation or miracle. The growing curiosity eventually drew groups of people to the spot, with many arriving to see the goat and record videos.
The ‘disappearing goat’ mystery
The biggest question was whether the animal was actually disappearing or simply moving out of sight through the complex rocky terrain.
