Mandi: A group of 21 cyclists, ranging in age from 23 to 45, has set out on an unprecedented expedition from the freezing peaks of Siachen Base Camp to the tropical shores of Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This extraordinary journey, which marks the Platinum Jubilee of the Territorial Army (TA), spans approximately 5,500 kilometers and is the first of its kind for the TA.
Cyclists Cover 80 to 100 Kilometers Daily
Each day, these determined cyclists cover 80 to 100 kilometers, navigating through diverse terrains and climates as they make their way across the length of the country. The youngest cyclist in the group is 23 years old, while the oldest, at 45, brings a wealth of experience to the challenging ride.

Expedition Milestones: From Siachen to Manali
The expedition, which began on July 30, 2024, from the Siachen Base Camp, has already seen the team reaching significant milestones. After arriving in Leh on August 2, the cyclists continued to make steady progress, most recently arriving in Manali. Their next destination is Mandi, where they are expected to arrive on August 14.
Mission Beyond Cycling: Raising Awareness and Strengthening Civil-Military Ties
This journey is not just about physical endurance; it is also a mission to raise awareness on crucial issues such as National Integration and Environmental Consciousness, while fostering a stronger Civil-Military connection. The Territorial Army, with its wide-reaching presence across India, aims to highlight its role in these areas through this expedition.
Rigorous Training and Daily Routine
Lt. Col. Manoj, who is leading the expedition, shared that the team underwent rigorous training in Shimla and Kalka to prepare for the physical and mental challenges of the journey. Their daily routine includes covering long distances during daylight hours, fueled by a diet rich in protein shakes, hydration, and light, nutritious meals to maintain their energy levels.
The Final Leg: A Ceremonial Finish at Indira Point
The expedition will continue cycling through the country until they reach Chennai. From there, the team will travel to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where they will complete the final leg of their journey. The culmination of this epic ride will be marked by the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian Tricolour underwater at Indira Point, symbolizing the unity and resilience of the nation.
