Mandi: Bollywood star turned MP, Kangana Ranaut, found herself at the center of a storm yet again following an incident at Chandigarh Airport on Thursday. The actress, known for her vocal stance against the farmers’ agitation, was slapped by a CISF personnel, reigniting discussions around the contentious Kisan Andolan.

Ranaut, recently elected from the Mandi Parliamentary seat, had been a polarizing figure due to her outspoken opinions on social media. During the 2020-2021 farmer protests, she misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab, confusing her with Bilkis Bano, an iconic figure from the anti-CAA protests. Ranaut’s erroneous tweet, suggesting Bano was “available for 100 rupees,” sparked widespread backlash before, she hastily deleted it.

The latest controversy unfolded on Thursday when Ranaut, refusing to place her phone in the security tray, allegedly shoved CISF personnel Kulwinder Kaur. In response, Kaur reportedly slapped the actress. The incident was quickly linked to Ranaut’s previous derogatory comments about women protesters.

Kulwinder Kaur, a seasoned CISF officer with 16-17 years of service, hailed from Maiwal village in Kapurthala district. Her brother, Sher Singh, a farmers’ organization official, revealed that their mother was among those Kangana had previously insulted. Kaur, in a video statement, corroborated this, asserting that her actions were fueled by Ranaut’s past derogatory remarks about the protesting women.

Following the incident, Ranaut flew to Delhi, meeting CISF Director General Nina Singh and other officials to present her side of the story. A committee of senior CISF officers was formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Ranaut addressed the media, emphasizing her safety and recounting the event: “I am getting a lot of phone calls from the media and well-wishers. First of all, I am safe, I am perfectly fine,” she assured. She claimed that the slap was a direct consequence of her support for the farmers’ protest.

Kulwinder Kaur was suspended, and a departmental inquiry was initiated. Authorities were also reportedly filing an FIR against Kaur based on Ranaut’s complaint.

The slap heard around the nation reignited the fervor surrounding the Kisan Andolan, placing Kangana Ranaut and her contentious past statements back under the media spotlight.
