CHAMBA: The Himachal Pradesh Forest Department took stern action against illegal encroachments in Lahad village of Valley panchayat under Dalhousie subdivision of Chamba district by demolishing unauthorised constructions.
The operation was led by Forest Range Officer Rahul Thakur from the Dalhousie region. During the crackdown, the team demolished an illegally built house, two toilets and a cow shed that had been constructed on forest land.
Illegal occupants taken by surprise
The demolition has caused a stir among the illegal occupants in the area. According to reports, the Forest Department had previously issued two to three notices to the encroachers, instructing them to remove the illegal constructions themselves.
However, despite repeated warnings, the encroachers failed to comply. Consequently, on Monday, the Forest Department team intervened and demolished the structures.

Court-ordered action on illegal encroachments
The action is part of an ongoing effort to clear illegal encroachments from forest and government land.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court had issued strict orders to remove encroachments by March 31, with specific instructions to the Forest and Public Works Departments to carry out the demolitions.
Both departments are working in coordination to free government and forest land from illegal occupation.
Forest Range Officer Rahul Thakur confirmed that the removal of illegal structures would continue as part of an ongoing campaign.
He said the team had successfully demolished five illegal constructions in Lahad village, ensuring that the forest land was cleared of encroachments.
