As clear skies prevailed across most parts of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday (May 2, 2024), residents and authorities brace for the potential resurgence of adverse weather conditions in the coming days as a western disturbance is all set to get active.

The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has forecast deteriorating weather patterns across various parts of the state from May 3. According to weather experts, many regions across the state, including plains, mid-mountains and high-altitude areas, are expected to experience rainfall on May 4 and 5. Light snowfall is anticipated on the peaks, leading to drop in temperature.

The weather authorities have issued yellow alerts for thunderstorms in numerous districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Kinnaur. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather advisories to ensure their safety. While the plains may see a reprieve from adverse weather conditions starting May 6, certain regions in the mid and high mountains may continue to experience inclement weather until May 8.

In Shimla, the minimum temperature dipped to 10 degrees Celsius while it was 8.1 degrees in Sundernagar, 5.5 degrees in Bhuntar and 0.8 degrees in Kalpa. Further temperature recordings include Dharamshala at 11.9 degrees Celsius, Una at 11.2 degrees Celsius, Nahan at 17.5 degrees Celsius and Keylong at 0.4 degrees Celsius. Solan registered a minimum temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius while Kangra and Mandi recorded 10.0 degrees Celsius and 8.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
