DHARAMSHALA: Even though nearly two weeks have elapsed, hundreds of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) employees in Dharamshala are still awaiting their salaries for the month of September.

This situation is not limited to Dharamshala as approximately 13,000 corporation employees and pensioners across the entire state find themselves in a similar predicament. Dharamshala alone has around 500 staff members, including 80 mechanics, 160 drivers, 150 conductors and others, while the total number statewide stands at approximately 13,000.

In addition to the employees, there are numerous pensioners who, despite the passage of nearly two weeks, have yet to receive their pensions.

At a press conference in Dharamshala on Saturday (October 14, 2023), Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Workers Union president Pyaar Singh Thakur said, “This delay has created confusion and financial strain for both the employees and their families. The non-payment of salaries has placed thousands of HRTC employees in a difficult financial situation.”

The employees have expressed their concerns, emphasising that the delay had left them uncertain about when they would receive their salaries. “It’s important to note that in today’s era of rising inflation, educational and other expenses have also surged significantly. As a result, the families of HRTC employees and officers are facing financial challenges,” said Thakur
