2 Malaysian helicopters collide during navy day training drill, all 10 aboard dead

Malaysia’s navy confirmed on Tuesday that two military helicopters collided and crashed during a routine training session, resulting in the death of all 10 persons aboard.

The accident occurred during a training exercise at a naval base located in northern Perak state. Reports indicate that one of the helicopters crashed onto a running track after the collision while the other fell into a nearby swimming pool.

 

The Malaysian navy released a statement regarding the incident, revealing that the helicopters were engaged in training activities in preparation for the upcoming 90th anniversary celebration of the navy scheduled next month. The statement expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy.

“All victims were confirmed deceased at the site of the accident,” the statement said. It further said that the remains of the deceased had been transported to the hospital for identification procedures.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. As the nation grapples with the shock and sorrow stemming from this tragic event, the Malaysian navy assured the public of its commitment to conducting a thorough inquiry to shed light on the incident.
