The Media Wellbeing Association (MWB) has announced plans to organize a three‑day Artificial Intelligence (AI) training camp in Manali for journalists and media professionals. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has accepted the invitation to be the chief guest at the event.

During a meeting with the Chief Minister, a delegation led by MWB North India President Chandra Shekhar Dharni submitted a memorandum demanding pension, health facilities, accident insurance, and other welfare schemes for journalists in Himachal Pradesh, similar to those already implemented in Haryana. The delegation included General Secretary Surender Mehta, Treasurer Tarun Kapoor, Himachal In‑charge Sanjay Bhutani, Senior Vice President Pawan Chopra, Secretary Mewa Singh Rana, and Himachal MWB President Vishal Sood. The meeting was facilitated by Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan.

Key Demands:

  • Pension scheme for journalists on the lines of Haryana.
  • Comprehensive health facilities and medical assistance.
  • Accident insurance and social security benefits.
  • A state‑level journalist welfare policy.

AI Training Camp Proposal: MWB emphasized the need for skill development in the rapidly evolving media landscape. The proposed camp will train journalists in responsible and ethical use of AI for news gathering, fact‑checking, content creation, data analysis, and digital media management. The association believes that technically skilled journalists will be able to deliver more credible and high‑quality journalism.

Accident Insurance Initiative: MWB also announced the launch of a free personal accident insurance scheme worth ₹10 lakh for journalists in Himachal Pradesh, starting from Shimla. The association highlighted that journalists often work in risky environments, and such coverage will serve as a protective shield for them and their families.

Government’s Response: MWB President Chandra Shekhar Dharni stated that the government’s response was positive. Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan assured the delegation that the demands would be seriously considered, noting that CM Sukhu is sensitive to the welfare of journalists and understands their crucial role in democracy.

The association expressed confidence that with government support, Himachal journalists will soon benefit from pension, health, and welfare schemes, paving the way for a safer and more secure working environment.
