DHARAMSHALA: The wife of late Chief Engineer Vimal Negi has succeeded in getting another prominent IAS officer named in the FIR related to the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation official’s death.

Initially, the FIR filed by the police had named Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Managing Director and IAS officer Harikesh Meena and Director of the Electrical Wing, Desh Raj, under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly driving her husband to suicide.

However, after receiving the FIR copy, Chief Engineer Vimal Negi’s wife Kiran Negi noticed a “crucial omission” — the name of IAS officer Shivam Pratap Singh, Director (Personal & Finance), was missing from it.

FIR amended to include name of Shivam Pratap Singh

Upon her insistence, the Himachal Pradesh Police re-recorded her statement and amended the FIR to include the name of Shivam Pratap Singh.

As the investigation into the suspicious death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi continues, the police have sealed his office at the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation.

The action follows reports of his sudden disappearance before his body was discovered on March 18, 2025. The police had already conducted an initial investigation at the office and security measures have been put in place to prevent unauthorized access.

The step was crucial to ensure that no tampering with important documents took place during the investigation, said an official.

Mysterious death of Vimal Negi raises several questions

The tragic and mysterious death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi has raised numerous questions. On March 10, 2025, the final moments of his life unfolded in a series of strange events that have left his family and the authorities perplexed.

Vimal Negi arrived at his office in BCS, Shimla, on the morning of March 10. After spending some time there, he took a vehicle hired by the corporation and headed to Tenzin Hospital in Panthaghati.

Upon arrival, he received a prescription for a medical check-up. However, due to the heavy crowd, Negi stood in line for about 15-20 minutes but left without undergoing the examination. CCTV footage from the hospital shows him waiting in line, visibly uneasy and leaving soon after. He then instructed his driver to take him to Mall Road.

Taxi switch and silent journey to Bilaspur

After his visit to the hospital, Vimal Negi was seen flagging down a taxi near Ripon Hospital on Circular Road, which was heading toward Bilaspur.

According to the taxi driver, Negi remained mostly silent throughout the ride. They made a brief stop near Chamakhari Bridge for a meal before continuing toward Bilaspur.

The driver reported that Negi did not engage much in conversation and when they reached Nauni Mod near the Four-Lane bifurcation, Negi requested to be dropped off. This was the last time he was seen in CCTV footage before his death.

On March 18, 2025, Vimal Negi’s body was discovered near the Bhakra Dam, close to Gah Ghodi in the Shahatlaai region of Bilaspur. The police are now faced with the challenge of determining how his body ended up in this area after he got off the taxi at Nauni Mod.
