SHIMLA:
Himachal Pradesh is witnessing another sharp turn in weather conditions, with night temperatures dipping steadily across the higher reaches.

The chill has tightened its grip over Lahaul-Spiti, where nights have turned significantly colder. On Tuesday, Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature of the season at -8°C, marking the coldest night so far. With the mercury plunging, several natural water sources in the Lahaul valley have begun to freeze, signaling a deeper onset of winter.

Dense fog swept parts of the plains

In contrast, dense fog swept parts of the plains, including Bilaspur, Sundernagar and Mandi, reducing visibility and adding to the winter discomfort.

Many locations across the state have already seen the minimum temperature slip below 5°C, with 16 towns registering temperatures under this mark. The cold wave conditions are expected to intensify further as the week progresses.

A weak western disturbance is likely to brush past the western Himalayan region starting December 5, potentially altering weather conditions in the mid and higher hills.

Light rain, snowfall expected on December 5, 7

According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, light rain or snowfall is expected at isolated places in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti on December 5 and 7. Apart from this brief spell, the rest of the week is likely to remain dry.

Minimum temperatures are not expected to change significantly over the next 24 hours, though a slight rise is likely over the next two to three days. Fog is also expected to linger in parts of Bilaspur and Mandi during the early hours of December 3 and 4.

Temperatures continued to dip across the state on Tuesday. Shimla recorded a minimum of 5°C, while Sundernagar logged 3.7°C, Bhuntar 3°C, and Kalpa touched 0°C. Una recorded 5.2°C, Nahan 10.3°C, Palampur 4°C, Solan 2.4°C, Manali 2.7°C, Kangra 5.5°C and Mandi 5.1°C. Bilaspur stood at 7.5°C, Sarahan at 5°C Hamirpur at 4°C, Kufri at 3.1°C, Narakanda at 2.4°C, Reckong Peo at 2.2°C and Paonta Sahib at 10°C.
