Bhamour
In the tribal heartland of Bhamour, women are proving that talent knows no bounds. One shining example is Kaushalya Devi of Bhamour Panchayat, whose dedication to preserving Gaddi cultural heritage has not only uplifted local traditions but also empowered many young women toward self-reliance.
For over 25 years, Kaushalya Devi has been crafting traditional Gaddi attire—Luanchdi, Chola, Dora, and the groom’s ceremonial dress Nuanchha. Her creations are cherished not only across Bhamour but also in Kangra district, where demand continues to grow.
Her journey is one of resilience and impact. Through her tailoring work, she has supported her family, helped her son become a Junior Engineer in the electricity department, arranged marriages for her daughters, and even built a new home. But her influence doesn’t stop there.
Kaushalya has trained and mentored several local girls, many of whom have gone on to establish their own livelihoods. Even today, half a dozen young women visit her daily to learn the craft, inspired by her success and the cultural pride she embodies.
Her story is a testament to how tradition, when nurtured with skill and purpose, can become a powerful tool for economic and social transformation.
