A private bus carrying passengers met with an accident in the Anni region of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of two persons, including the driver, and leaving several others injured.
The incident occurred around 11 am on the Shwad-Nigan road near Shakelad when the bus, en route from Karsog to Anni, veered off the road and plunged into a 100-metre-deep gorge.
According to preliminary reports, the accident was caused by a technical failure, with passengers reporting that a suspension strap broke, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Bus was carrying 25 passengers

The crash was severe, reducing the bus to mangled debris and causing chaos at the scene. The bus was carrying 25 passengers at the time of the accident.
Local residents were among the first to respond, rushing to the scene to provide immediate assistance and initiating rescue efforts. Many of the injured were transported to hospitals in private vehicles even before official rescue teams arrived.

Upon receiving the information, police and administration teams, including Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S Ravish and Anni DSP Chandrashekhar Kayath, reached the site to oversee rescue and relief operations. Ambulances and additional vehicles were deployed to transport the remaining injured passengers to the hospital for medical treatment.
The Kullu DC confirmed the death of the bus driver on the spot. “Our team is on the site and rescue operations are in full swing. The injured have been provided first aid and sent to the hospital. A detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is underway,” he said.

Passengers recount horrific incident

Eyewitnesses and the injured passengers recounted the terrifying moments when the bus veered off the road. “There was a loud noise when the strap broke and the bus started swerving uncontrollably before plunging into the gorge,” shared one of the survivors.
Chandrashekhar Kayath said by the time officials arrived, several injured individuals had already been moved to the hospital with the help of locals.
