Commuters on the Pathankot–Mandi National Highway are facing serious danger due to large potholes in the Wanoi area, which have remained unrepaired for several months. Locals warn that the situation has become life-threatening, especially during the monsoon.
Residents report that rainwater fills the potholes, concealing their depth and making them particularly hazardous for two-wheeler riders. Many have lost balance and fallen, sustaining injuries. At night, the danger intensifies as the potholes are barely visible, while heavy traffic continues to ply the busy highway.
Drivers often swerve suddenly to avoid the craters, raising the risk of collisions and major accidents. Schoolchildren, women, and elderly pedestrians are especially vulnerable.
Local residents have expressed strong resentment over the NHAI’s negligence, stating that repeated complaints have gone unheard. They have urged the NHAI and district administration to repair the potholes immediately before the monsoon intensifies, stressing that preventive action is essential to avert a serious tragedy.
