Broken Railings on Wanoi Bridge Along Pathankot–Mandi NH Pose Major Accident Risk

Gaggal (Kangra): Serious safety concerns have emerged on the Wanoi Bridge along the Pathankot–Mandi National Highway, where the railings have completely collapsed, leaving commuters vulnerable to accidents.

Thousands of vehicles, including buses, trucks, two-wheelers, and pedestrians, cross this bridge daily. Local residents report that the railings have broken off at several points, with some sections missing entirely. During the rainy season, slippery conditions increase the risk of two-wheeler riders and pedestrians falling into the gorge. Schoolchildren, women, and the elderly are particularly at risk.

The situation worsens at night due to the absence of street lighting, making the bridge even more hazardous. Residents say repeated complaints to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have gone unanswered, fueling public anger.

Locals have urged the NHAI and district administration to immediately repair the railings and implement strong safety measures before a tragedy occurs. They stressed that preventive action is critical to avoid a major accident on this busy highway.
