MANDI: The arrival of Shri Dev Kamrunag Ji, the revered deity of Mandi, marked the grand beginning of the International Shivratri Festival in the district.
Mandi Mayor Virendra Bhatt Sharma, along with councillors of the Municipal Corporation, ceremoniously welcomed Bada Dev Kamrunag at Bahna Chowk in Ward No. 14 as he entered the municipal limits.
Following this, in line with age-old traditions, the Mandi district administration, led by Shivpal Sharma, president of the Sarv Devta Committee, along with other dignitaries, extended a grand welcome to Bada Dev Kamrunag at Pulgharat, the official boundary of Mandi town.
Subsequently, upon Bada Dev Kamrunag’s arrival at the royal palace, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan offered a formal reception, continuing the legacy of royal customs.

Traditions honoured at Royal Palace
After the ceremonial welcome, Bada Dev Kamrunag first paid his respects at the Raj Mahal Madhav Rao Temple. In keeping with traditions, a royal reception was organised before the deity proceeded with grand entourage towards the Tarna Mata Temple, where he will reside for the next seven days.
The streets of Mandi witnessed a massive influx of devotees, all eager to catch a glimpse of Bada Dev Kamrunag. As the revered deity arrived, the town of Mandi, often referred to as “Chhoti Kashi”, was enveloped in an aura of spirituality and devotion.

Among all the deities participating in the festival, Bada Dev Kamrunag is the only one who remains at the Tarna Mata Temple for the entire seven days, symbolizing the beginning of the celebrations.
This year, the International Shivratri Festival will be celebrated from February 27 to March 5, 2025. The festival will feature grand processions, cultural evenings, and the participation of 216 registered deities from across the district.
• The first grand procession (Jaleb) will be held on February 27.
• Additional processions are scheduled for March 2, with the final grand procession on March 5.
• The Seri Stage will host cultural performances from February 27 to March 4, featuring both local and international artistes.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will grace the first grand procession, while Governor Shiva Prakash Shukla will attend the closing ceremony on March 5.
