The Congress leaders have been dredging up clips from old interviews of actor Kangana Ranaut, fielded as the Lok Sabha poll candidate from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, to stir controversy, targeting the BJP for selecting her as their star campaigner.

After “ate beef out of curiosity” and “Subhas Chandra Bose India’s first PM” bloopers, the Congress has raked up the actor’s old comments where she said India had got freedom in 1947 as ‘bheek’ (alms) and true freedom came in 2014 when Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister.

The Congress had targeted Kangana in 2021 too when she made the “azadi bheek mein mili” remark with the party demanding that her Padma award be taken back. The Congress had alleged that the actor had insulted the sacrifices of all those who participated in the freedom movement and even laid down their lives for the country’s cause.

Another comment for which she is bring targeted is that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did not know English and that was why he was not made the Prime Minister. In 1897, Vallabhbhai Patel had passed his high school and started preparing for law examination. He went to pursue a degree in law and travelled to England in 1910.

He completed his law degree in 1913 from Inns of Court and came back to India to start his law practice in Godhra, Gujarat.

Kangana had also stirred a controversy with her recent statement at the Times Now Summit where she referred to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose as India’s first Prime Minister.

On top of it, the actress, known for her tryst with controversies in the past, backed her statement with a screenshot from NDTV website. “All those who are giving me gyan on first PM of Bharata do read this screen shot here’s some general knowledge for the beginners, all those geniuses who are asking me to get some education must know that I have written, acted, directed a film called ‘Emergency’, which primarily revolves around the Nehru family so no mansplaining please.

If I speak way ahead of your IQ, you assume I must be uninformed, well the joke is on you and it’s a lame one (sic),” she posted on her X handle.

In another controversy, Kangana said that her mother had advised her against consuming beef when she left her home town Mandi to pursue a career in the film industry.

She said she “tried it once out of curiosity”, but later adopted a completely vegetarian diet, and that she identified herself as a devout Hindu.

The Congress has launched vigorous campaigns against Kangana, questioning whether people would support “such a candidate”.
