Dharamshala conducts first adult vaccination session

Dharamshala: The first adult BCG vaccination session in the urban area of Dharamshala commenced at the Zonal Hospital, where Kangra Chief Medical Officer Dr Rajesh Guleri, received the vaccine.
District health officer Dr Rajesh Sood, Rajendra Kumar, assistant controller Finance and Accounts, along with department employees and residents of Dharamshala city also received the BCG vaccine on this occasion.
Addressing reporters, the Chief Medical Officer explained that the BCG vaccine has been administered to newborns in India since 1921, protecting them from severe forms of tuberculosis for over a century in more than 180 countries. Additionally, the adult BCG vaccination enhances resistance capacity. This vaccination drive is being carried out in 274 districts across India, including six districts of Himachal Pradesh, which started in March and will continue for three months.
So far, approximately 30,627 individuals out of one lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated in rural areas of Kangra district through approximately 786 sessions. Eligible recipients for adult BCG vaccination include individuals aged 60 and above and those between 18 and 60 years with specific risk factors such as diabetes, malnutrition, smoking history, or contact with TB patients.
The Chief Medical Officer announced that BCG vaccination will be conducted every Monday and Thursday in the hospital’s mobile unit and urged all eligible individuals and their family members to avail of this opportunity.
