The Tourism department’s recent nod of approval for tandem and solo flights marks a pivotal moment for this picturesque location, known for its pristine landscapes and panoramic vistas.
Following meticulous recommendations from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institute in Manali, the Tourism and Civil Aviation department has formally designated Dungathar as a premier destination for paragliding adventures.

This decision opens doors for registered pilots to take flight, promising a surge in tourism activity and economic growth in the region.

Conducted in collaboration with teams from the Forest department and Tourism department, successful paragliding trials underscored Dungathar’s potential as a top-tier technical take-off site.
Past trials, during the tenure of the Jai Ram government in the state, revealed areas for improvement, leading to renewed efforts and a commitment to excellence in safety and operational standards.

Dungathar’s allure lies not only in its suitability for flying throughout the day but also in its strategic location, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and unexplored terrain. Recognized as on par with Billing in Bir, this site promises a seamless blend of adrenaline-pumping adventure and serene natural beauty.

With official designation secured, operators are poised to register, ushering in a new era of adventure tourism.

From Devi Dhad to Saroa, Shikari Devi, and Kamrunag, local economies stand to benefit from increased footfall and employment opportunities, as Dungathar ascends to international recognition.

In essence, the approval of the Dungathar paragliding site signifies not just a milestone in adventure sports but also a testament to the untapped potential of Himachal Pradesh’s tourism landscape.

Ritesh Patial, additional district tourism officer confirmed that Dungathar site has been approved by the Tourism department for all sorts of paragliding activities.
