The three-day zonal-level sports competition for under-14 students commenced today at Government Senior Secondary School, Sihunta, with Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania formally inaugurating the event.
In his address, Pathania emphasized the vital role of sports in the holistic development of students, urging them to devote regular time to games alongside academics. He noted that sports instill discipline, confidence, and resilience, shaping students into healthy and capable citizens.
The competition, running from August 29 to 31, features participation from 28 schools of the Bhatiyat education block, with nearly 300 young athletes competing in volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, and wrestling.
Pathania encouraged students to play with true sporting spirit, focusing on performance rather than victory or defeat. He also urged them to pledge against substance abuse and highlighted that success comes through consistent hard work and determination.
Prior to the inauguration, Deputy Director of Elementary Education Manohar Lal and ADP EO Mahinder Thakur welcomed and honored the Speaker. School Principal Narendra Sharma presented the annual sports report, while students showcased a vibrant cultural program.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including HP State Forest Corporation Director Krishan Chand Chela, District Congress Vice President Manoj Mahajan, Gram Panchayat Sihunta Pradhan Anil Kumar, Vice-Pradhan Madan, BDC members Shammie Devi and Mukesh, SDM Bhatiyat Manish Soni, Chief Conservator of Forests Rakesh Kumar, DFO Dalhousie Dr. Kuldeep Jambal, Executive Engineer PWD Narendra Chaudhary, HPSEBL official Pankaj Rathore, DSP Sher Singh, School Principal Narendra Sharma, and School Management Committee Chairman Rinku Mahra.
