In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Nurpur Police have seized 428 grams of opium and arrested one accused during an operation carried out by Thakurdwara Police Post under Indora Police Station.
On July 9, 2026, the police team was on routine patrol and anti-narcotics duty at Malkana Chowk when they received a tip-off that Sumit Thakur, a resident of Malkana village, was engaged in opium trade and carrying the contraband in his motorcycle (HP97B-3331). Acting swiftly, the team raided the water supply premises at Mand Ghandran village. In the presence of two independent witnesses, the motorcycle was searched as per procedure.
The search led to the recovery of 428 grams of opium concealed inside the fuse box of the motorcycle. The contraband and the vehicle were seized on the spot.
A case has been registered at Indora Police Station under FIR No. 105/2026 dated 09.07.2026, Section 15 of the NDPS Act.
Arrested Accused:
- Sumit Thakur (31), son of Narendra Singh, resident of Village Malkana, Post Office Paral, Tehsil Indora, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the seized opium and to determine whether the accused is linked to a wider drug trafficking network. Authorities have assured that if further involvement of other individuals is established, strict legal action will follow.
