The Mission Bharpoor 2.0, a targeted nutritional rehabilitation initiative to fight childhood malnutrition, was formally launched today at Rakkad village and Anganwadi Centre, Dharamshala. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Hemraj Bairwa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, and Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director, CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur.

The launch event was attended by members of the local community, scientists from CSIR-IHBT including Dr. Mahesh Gupta and Dr. Vidyashankar Srivatsan, and officials from the Department of Women & Child Development, Office of the District Programme Officer (DPO), Kangra.

Mission Bharpoor 2.0 will support 1,140 children across Kangra district, focusing on those aged 6 months to 5 years identified as Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM), Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM), stunted, and underweight. During the launch, scientifically formulated nutrition kits were distributed, containing iron-enriched Spirulina bars, fruit bars, protein- and fibre-rich energy bars, millet panjeeri, and millet-based porridge mixes.

Building on the success of Phase-I, which recorded nearly 68% recovery in children following nutritional supplementation, the second phase aims to accelerate recovery from acute malnutrition while addressing micronutrient deficiencies, protein-energy gaps, and related health concerns.

The programme also emphasizes regular anthropometric monitoring, supervised consumption, dietary diversity, complementary feeding, and household hygiene awareness. By combining scientifically designed nutritional supplementation with community participation, Mission Bharpoor 2.0 seeks to ensure that children across Kangra receive adequate nutrition for healthy physical growth and cognitive development.
