On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the Mental Health and Counseling Committee of Government Arya College, Nurpur organized an awareness lecture on the theme “Mental Health and Emotional Well‑Being.” The program was presided over by Acting Principal and Associate Professor of Botany, Dr. Rakesh Kumar.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Anjana Gautam, Assistant Professor of Sociology, who highlighted the importance of mental health awareness.
Dr. Seemant, Psychiatrist at Civil Hospital Nurpur, guided students on effective ways to cope with anxiety, stress, and emotional challenges. He emphasized regular exercise, a healthy lifestyle, adequate rest, and a balanced routine, while also warning against the rising problem of substance abuse among youth.
The second speaker, Mr. Abhishek Kumar, Counselor at Civil Hospital Nurpur, discussed the physical, mental, and social changes during adolescence. He elaborated on issues such as panic attacks and addressed common emotional and physical concerns of teenagers.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Rakesh Kumar expressed gratitude to the expert speakers, committee members, faculty, and students. Dr. Anjana Gautam presented the vote of thanks.
The program was attended by faculty members including Prof. Manjeet Singh, Dr. Anil Kumar, Prof. Shashi Bala, Prof. Alka, Prof. Reema, Prof. Suresh Kumar, Prof. Surjeet Kumar, Prof. Shiv Kumar, and Dr. Kumari Seema, along with nearly 120 students.
The lecture aimed to raise awareness among students about mental health, inspire them to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and encourage timely professional help for mental and emotional challenges.
